Winterization Tips
Cold weather is here! Make sure you are ready!
If you notice that your water meter box or backflow box do not have insulation inside, please contact us.
Have your sprinkler system blown out around the time of the first freeze (usually October). This prevents water that has settled in your irrigation lines from freezing and bursting pipes in your sprinkler system.
Disconnect water hoses from outdoor faucets & cover outdoor faucets with faucet insulators.
Install vent plugs in your foundation.
Know how to shut off your water in case of emergency.
If you use heat tape, check that it is plugged in and working. If you live in a mobile home, all of the piping under your house needs to be wrapped with heat tape to prevent the pipes from freezing during the cold winter months.
Consider leaving the heat on inside your home if you will be gone.
Consider shutting off your water if you will be gone for an extended period.
Please keep your water meter free of any obstacles. The meter needs to be accessible at all times for Roats Water System employees.
Remember, all plumbing past the water meter is the customer’s responsibility.

Title: Temporary Air in Water (Pump Overheat Resolved)
Date: October 24, 2025
Status: Resolved - Customers May Notice Air Bubbles For 2-3 Days
What happened
A pump overheated earlier this week, creating extreme heat and pressure changes that caused a small portion of water to temporarily vaporize into steam bubbles inside the pump. This can show up at the tap as harmless air bubbles.
What we’ve done
The affected pump has been removed from the system entirely.
Roats Water System crews are flushing water lines in the Mountain High neighborhood to help release the remaining air.
Out of an abundance of caution, water quality samples were collected and analyze. The water samples were returned from the lab as negative. Your drinking water is safe to consume.
Safety
The air bubbles are not a health risk.
This issue is not connected in any way to recent irrigation blow-outs.
What you may notice
Cloudy or fizzy-looking water that clears from the bottom up in a glass—that’s dissolved air escaping.
Brief spurts of air at faucets during flushing.
Aerated water, or water that is mixed with tiny air bubbles, can enhance the flavors of minerals and other constituents in the water. This can sometimes lead to a metallic or sweet taste, depending on the mineral content.
What you can do
Run cold water for 1–2 minutes to help clear air in your home’s lines.
If discoloration occurs during nearby flushing, run cold water for several minutes; it should clear.
